Suns Spurs Rematch

Sorry that is took so long to get my next blog out, with school and all, it can be difficult to find the time of day for everything. The title of this blog should be pretty self-explanatory, but before I get to that hot topic I want to do a rewind of this weekend in sports. While I do not profess myself to be an avid football fan, unlike others I know, I do enjoy following the game and seeing the story lines unfold. This week brought plenty an opportunity to relish in the stories.

I'm gonna kick it all off with one of my more favorite stories of the week: Dallas. Every since I was a little 49ers fan growing up, I have been taught to dislike the Cowboys. America's so called "favorite team" doesn't even make my top ten list of best teams in sports. This last week they proved why they are incredibly over rated and will NOT win it all this year. They lost to a team with a losing record (and should have lost on multiple occasions to teams with losing records). The Eagles are not a bad team, but they certainly don't have the shutdown defense they used to have. The fact that the Cowboys could get to double digits in scoring and couldn't even find their way into the endzone shows how bad this team is. They are in the NFC (which doesn't stand a chance at beating the top 3 AFC teams) hampers their "12-2" record that appears so great. Romo is too busy worrying about his Hollywood status and his ditsy girl (Jessica Simpson) to even be bothered with game day preparations. His QB rating of 22 was the proof of his preparation. But enough about the "Boys".

A few other stories was the feel good story of the Dolphins and the fell bad story of the Patriots. The Dolphins are a horrible team, but at least they wont go into the record books as the only team to go 0-16. They still have a long way to go before they are even "good", but they are moving in the right direction. As for the Patriots, or should I just refer to Belichick. This guy is a real character. Like he meant a single word he said about amazing game! The number one sign of his insincerity was the fact that the game was HORRIBLE. He just wants the PR and hopes that maybe one day someone will respect him, well too bad, so sad. You will never get my respect and I bet there are many more like me who would agree.

On to the real topic of the day, Suns Spurs. The Spurs have been the demise of the Suns for many years. Even before the second coming of Steve Nash, the spurs have been the thorn in the side for Phoenix. While anyone could see they are a good team, not everyone sees how they are a dirty team. It all starts with the "Defensive Genius" of Bowen. It is easy to be a defensive stopper when you knee the other guy in the groin so he can't move like normal. Or even when you stick your leg out or pretend to go for the ball so you can step on the other player's ankle. You add into the mix a foreign player with a blatant disrespect for anyones safety. He flops around and doesn't care if his hand hit your face or anywhere else for that matter. Finally you add in a guy who is stupid enough to say, add I quote:

"Last time I played the Phoenix Suns, I got bamboozled," Horry said, "because I got a two-game suspension and I only deserved a one-game suspension.

"I'm from the old school. When I came in the league, during the playoffs, foul hard; no blood, no flagrant foul. It was just a hard foul. My intention was to take a charge, but I got there too late. Of course, when you've got 150 (pounds) meets 250, 150 is going to go flying. It's all good. You learn from it and move on."

There is only one comment to that WOW. It is extremely apparent that the league is not going to do anything clean up the Spurs game and that they are not going to penalize spur's players for dirty play. The solution for the Suns lies in the problem, fight dirty with dirty. I am reminded of the playoff series with the Lakers, when Raja Bell threw a close line on Bryant. It was amazing how much that energized the team and how strong they went out and played the last games of the series to get the win. In this league, you can't be afraid to get your hands dirty or else teams will walk all over you. Phoenix has more than enough guys to throw out there that could take care of business. I will be watching intently tonight to find out what happens and I hope that the Suns can show that they are not afraid of the Spurs and take them down.

And that's my two cents for the day.

Nicely put.

On the note of the Cowboys, though I do personally like then, I must say they are overrated. I do feel they should have beaten the Eagles, but one big issue with Romo was that he injured his hand last week, and that's why his aim was so off...plus he worried about ditzy girlfriend too much. The Cowboys really do have a really good offense, their big weakness is their defense. They have absolutely no pass defense at all. They won't win it all this year because the AFC is so strong. If they want to be a serious contender they need a running game which they currently lack. I do think their the best the NFC has to offer right now though.

As for Belichick, he's a complete cad. I can't stand him. What was his quote on why they kept going for touchdowns against teams when they were up by 40 - "What do you want me to do, kick a field goal? We gave them a chance to beat us, or atleast stop up." Well let's see, they haven't stopped you all night, that's why you're up by 40, so what makes you think they're gonna be able to stop you now? Oh, right, you're a total jerk. Belichick's coaching is equivalent to the NBA being up by 50 points with 2 minutes left and still leaving your starters in just so you can pad their stats. It's just low. I hope it all comes crashing down around Belichick and we get a Mitchel Report showing how everything he does is low. Mostly I just don't want him getting praise and credit for playing dirty. He will never get my respect. I only wish spygate ruined him. I will say though I think they will go 16-0 this season and then lose to the Colts in the post season which does make me happy. *hope hope*

Lastly, the suns/spurs game...Oh man. Yes I am from Texas. Yes I do like the Cowboys. No I do not like the Spurs. I'm sick of them winning. They play dirty, they look dirty (c'mon, ginobili and oberto??? that's what I thought), and they expect and get special treatment in the game. I used to like Robert Horry when he was a Rocket and didn't play dirty yet (that I ever noticed - besides, we had Mario Elie for that!). That ruthless attack on Steve Nash and pathetic. If you can beat them just put your tail between your legs and accept it. Be a man. Suns had the championship stolen from them last year.

Bowen is also the dirtiest player I have ever seen. People like John Stockton would do funny things, like hold onto the bottom of someone's shorts so they would be scared to jump for a rebounded for fear of being "pantsed". Bowen does things intentionally to hurt other players. For example, purposely putting your foot underneath where someone is about to land hoping to get them to roll an ankle. That's right, the camera caught you looking at the court and aiming just where to put your foot rather than watching the player go for the rebound. How about you purposely trying to knee other players crotches amongst other things.

In conclusion, all I have to say is :

Congrats on that win tonight, Phoenix, you made my heart glad.

Here's something that will not please you, and even though I like the cowboys, think it's a complete crock.

Crock, but a good reason why we don't let the common fan vote for MVPs

Here's a direct quote from nfl.com about the pro bowl and some of the players elected.

"the Dallas Cowboys have had an outstanding season. But is it really deserving of 11 Pro Bowlers, three more than the 14-0 New England Patriots and seven more than the 12-2 Green Bay Packers? I don't think so."

I don't think so either.

I think the cowboys are pretty good this year, but they are no where near the same level as the patriots, nor are they as deserving of bowl bids as I believe the Packers do. The packers players, aside for Favre, were nobodies at the beginning of the season and now look at them as individual players and as a team. C'mon, if that kind of accomplishment doesn't merit a trip to Hawaii, then what does?
